Learning Accomplishment Profile-Diagnostic Edition Screens (LAP-D Screens)

Overview

The Learning Accomplishment Profile-Diagnostic Edition Screens (LAP-D Screens) are standardized tools used to obtain a fast, reliable “snapshot” of an individual child’s development. The LAP-D Screens contain three parts: a Five Year Old (Kindergarten) screen; a Four Year Old Screen; and a Three Year Old Screen.
The results can be used to determine whether an in-depth evaluation is needed. When possible, the LAP-D Screens should be used in conjunction with other screening information, such as vision and hearing screening, through a multi-disciplinary team process.

Age Range

The LAP-D Screens are appropriate for 3-, 4-, and 5-year-old children (one screen per age level).

Structure of LAP-D

The LAP-D Screens contain a hierarchy of developmental skills arranged in chronological sequence by age level in four developmental domains, including the following:
  • Gross Motor
  • Fine Motor
  • Cognitive
  • Language
Administration
  • Takes 12-15 minutes
  • Administered one-on-one only
Materials LAP-D Screening Manuals

There is one Screen Manual per age group. Each LAP-D Screening Manual includes procedural instructions for administering individual items, a materials list, and the scoring criteria for each of the 16 items.

LAP-D Scoring Profiles

The LAP-D Scoring Protocols contain an abbreviated form of each item name in the same sequential order as the manuals for each age level (3-, 4-, and 5-year olds). The protocols include spaces for recording child demographic information, screening results, a comment column, and cut-off scores. The scoring protocols are printed on NCR paper so that results can be shared with authorized persons easily.

LAP-D Screening Kit

The LAP-D Screens kit includes
  • a screening manual for each age level (3-, 4-, and 5-year olds)
  • clear, plastic bags with the required materials for each age level
  • scoring protocols for each age level
  • a technical and examiner’s manual
Available in Spanish LAP-D Screens are available in Spanish, including the manual, scoring profiles, and instructional materials.

Reporting LAP-D Screens Results
Results are divided into PASS (P) or REFER (R)
  • PASS (P) = child performing in average range of development compared to other children in the same age group.
  • REFER (R) = child needs further, more in-depth evaluation. REFER scores are divided into three levels: Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary.
