Back to Basics is the on-site, interactive training program for Head Start teaching staff. The training will focus on planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities for children with disabilities. |

| What are the components of the Back to Basics training? |
The DSQIC will work with each program to customize the
training activities to address their specific needs. A pre-training
interview will be conducted with the Disability Services and
Education Managers. Teaching staff will complete a pre-training
self-assessment. Six hours of training will
be provided on-site. Agenda items include:
Training and
resource materials will be provided for all participants. Two
one-hour follow-up sessions will be conducted with
training participants. |
| Are there any special requirements for the training? |
Group size is important to maintain the interactive nature of
this training. We are requiring a minimum of twenty
participants. Training will be provided to a maximum
of forty teachers (2 groups) per day in a single site.
The Disability Services and Education/Child Development Managers are
requested to participate in the training. They will play an important
role in the follow-up activities with staff. To defray the cost of
materials, we are charging a minimal fee of $25.00 per person. A
Certificate of Participation and Continuing
Education Units are provided for all persons after completing the
eight-hour program. |
